King Visits All 32 Counties in the 5th District |
Steve King cast his “No” vote on the second Congressional bailout package on September 29 and returned to Iowa’s 5th District to launch a campaign tour of all 32 counties. By October 23, King completed this mission and continues to meet with citizens as the General Election approaches.
“During a series of town hall meetings and other events, I have talked with western Iowans about our nation, our priorities, and our values,” King remarked. “We face the most important election of our lifetime when we choose between free market capitalism and the socialization of our economy, between opportunity and dependency.”
As King criss-crossed the district once again, he heard from farmers, small business owners, retired folks, as well as young people. Each shared their concern over the direction our nation is headed. “Iowans are more politically aware and astute than any in the country,” King observed. “Whether it’s the bailout, energy policy, or the Farm Bill, Iowans demand accountability in their elected officials and cast their ballots accordingly.”
King was first elected to Congress in 2002 following six years in the Iowa Senate. He has visited each of the 286 towns in the 5th Congressional District and traveled to all 32 counties many times. A resident of rural Kiron, he founded an earth-moving contracting business now owned by his eldest son. King and his wife of 36 years, Marilyn, were high school sweethearts, are parents of three grown sons, and have two grandchildren.
