	In The News Wednesday, September 17, 2008 King Claims Victory on Fannie and Freddie Golden Parachutes WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Congressman Steve King today released the following statement regarding the recent decision by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s regulator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), to block as much as $24 million in ‘golden parachute’ severance payments to the firms outgoing executives. “I am pleased that FHFA has decided to step in and prevent these executives from walking away from the mess they’ve created at Fannie and Freddie with millions of dollars in their pockets. It is incredible to think that these executives could have received hefty ‘golden parachute’ payments after running Fannie and Freddie into the ground. Taxpayers are now on the hook for billions of dollars in liabilities that were created by the mismanagement of these individuals. They should not be rewarded for their failures.” Last week, when it was first reported that the outgoing executives of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could leave their posts generous with golden parachute severance packages, King introduced legislation to require the FHFA regulator to prohibit such payments from being made.
