King, NASA Astronaut See Bright Future for America Space Exploration |
 |
Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, Iowa Congressman Steve King met with Iowa native, Peggy Whitson, who a NASA astronaut and the first female commander of the International Space Station. Raised in Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Commander Whitson led a six-month long mission on the space station where she had already been part of an earlier mission in 2002. King stated: “Our NASA astronauts are an inspiration. Their work alone is remarkable, but in-person, astronauts like Commander Whitson clearly demonstrate the finest character and intellect we could hope for.” “From a farm near Mt. Ayr, Commander Whitson has succeeded to lead mankind to the reaches of space. I hope all Iowans take notice of Commander Peggy Whitson’s leadership. Whether it’s Norman Borlaug or Peggy Whitson, Iowa produces world leaders. ” “If you’re a young person interested in space exploration or if you know someone who is, you can be encouraged by Commander Whitson. Like her, with hard work, determination and the willingness to dream, young Iowans can lead the nation and the world into the future of space exploration.”
Congressman Steve King yesterday voted to support our American space exploration program at the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA). The bill provides essential investments for NASA to remain a global leader in space exploration for decades to come.
