King Thanks Iowa Veterans at National World War II Memorial
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Steve King yesterday joined a group of World War II veterans from Iowa and Nebraska to honor their service at a wreath laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial on the National Mall. High school students lining the long entryway to the memorial greeted the Iowa and Nebraska veterans with cheers and applause.

King made the following statement about the ceremony:

“Our World War II veterans served their country and a global fight for freedom. I am honored to be with these veterans at the national memorial that marks their service. These great Americans embody the code of “Duty, Honor, Country.”

“These Iowa veterans answered the call to protect our freedoms. We owe them our thanks for the liberty we enjoy today as Americans.

The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem. Representatives of the veterans laid wreaths and folded flags in honor of all World War II veterans and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the conflict. The ceremony closed with a moment of silence while a trumpeter played Taps. The visit was arranged by Honor Flight, a non-profit group that organizes World War II veterans’ visits to the war memorial.
