King Urges Speaker Pelosi to Allow a Resolution to Honor Christmas |
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Steve King submitted a bill to recognize the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith. The King Christmas Resolution, or H. Res. 847, follows two similar bills honoring both the Hindu and the Islamic religions and their respective holidays.
“Over three-fourths of Americans identify themselves as Christians, and one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar is Christmas. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The day is observed by Christians and non-Christians alike in the United States and the rest of the world as a time to serve others,” said Congressman King.
Fifty-two other Members of Congress have already signed their name to the King Christmas Resolution. Congress is scheduled to adjourn for Christmas recess at the end of next week and will not return until mid-January.
King and his resolution’s supporters urge Speaker Pelosi to allow this important resolution to have a vote before the House of Representatives adjourns for Christmas recess.
“Earlier this year , the House of Representatives passed bills proclaiming Hinduism and Islam great religions of the world at the time of their major celebrations. My resolution offers the same honor to the Christian faith. I know all of my fellow Americans join me in celebrating the spirit of the Christmas celebration, even if they are not believers in Christ. God has richly blessed the United States of America,” added King.
