King Votes Against Taxes that Would Raise Gas Prices |
Washington, D.C. -Congressman Steve King voted NO yesterday on a controversial proposal to raise taxes on American energy companies. Foreign energy companies would be exempt from those same tax increases, so that CITGO, an oil company run by Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, would have a competitive tax advantage over American companies. The measure passed the House by a vote of 236-182. King made the following statement: “The Liberal, San Francisco values of Speaker Nancy Pelosi have dominated Congress for more than a year. Yesterday she brought up another energy bill that would deplete America's energy supply and increase gas prices. If Pelosi wants to make Americans pay higher prices at the pump, she's on the right track.” “What they didn't tell anyone is that foreign oil companies would not have to pay tax increases! Giving the likes of Hugo Chavez an advantage over American energy companies isn't just bad for America, it's bad for the free world.” “Iowa farmers have seen their fuel and fertilizer bills increase over the past year. We cannot be held hostage by failed liberal energy policy when they are producing food, fiber and fuel for the United States.”
“The only way to reduce the cost of energy and break our reliance on Middle Eastern oil is if we produce more BTUs here at home. That means drilling for more oil here in America and building our renewable fuels industry in Iowa and across the country. Until liberals learn that simple math, Pelosi will continue to bring socialist-style energy bills for a vote in Congress.”
