KING SUPPORTS LEGISLATION FOR VETERANS
WASHINGTON - Yesterday U.S. Congressman Steve King voted to pass three bills aimed at improving the lives of America's veterans.
Yesterday the House considered three measures to increase the Veterans' Administration's efforts to expand veteran's vision programs to include those who have suffered "impairment of vision" instead of total blindness, to address the problem of suicides by veterans, and to provide annual cost of living adjustments for veterans that are equal to those paid by the Social Security Administration. King voted for and helped to pass all three of the bills on the House floor.
"As the United States continues to wage the War on Terror, it is important that we do all that we can to take care of the brave men and women who have served this nation in uniform. We have made a sacred promise to our veterans to care for them and their loved ones, and we need to do everything we can to honor their sacrifice and keep our promise," said King.
"These three bills take small yet important steps to ensure that our veterans get the care and support they need and deserve for their selfless service," added King.
H.R. 327, the Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act, was named in honor of an Iowa veteran and would require the Veterans Administration to establish a new program designed to reduce the incidence of suicide among veterans.
