SOUTHWEST IOWA TO SEE FEDERAL FUNDSIN TRANSPORTATION
PROJECTS
WASHINGTON - U.S.
Congressman Steve King today announced Southwest Iowa
will receive $2 million in federal funding for
transportation projects.
Last night the U.S. House
passed H.R. 5576 - the
Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development,
the Judiciary, the District of Columbia, and Independent
Agencies Appropriations Act for FY07, which
includes $1 million for the Council Bluffs Airport
expansion and $1 million for the U.S. 34 Bridge.
King worked closely with
Congressmen Lee Terry and Jeff Fortenberry of Nebraska
to aggressively pursue funding for the U.S. 34 Missouri
River bridge relocation and replacement. The
appropriations bill now must be passed by the Senate.
"Both of
these projects unlock the economic potential of the
area," said King. "A U.S. 34 bridge will
open up our area to more people, jobs and wealth, and
expanding the airport to compete for corporate services
will make our area more attractive to companies looking
to bring jobs and wealth here."
