KING OPPOSES LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY
WASHINGTON - Today U.S. Congressman Steve King released the following statement regarding the release of House Democrats' Fiscal Year 2008 budget proposal to raise taxes and increase federal spending:
"There is no one who spends Americans' money better than Americans themselves. Since 2001 we have seen how much economic good can be done by simply allowing Americans to keep more of their hard earned money. We've seen common-sense tax cuts create millions of jobs, put billions of dollars back into the budgets of American families, and put countless Americans' retirement and savings goals closer to reality with historic records on Wall Street.
"Despite these very obvious successes, the Democrats have decided that they know better than you and I how our money should be spent. In their Fiscal Year 2008 budget proposal, House Democrats would impose a 392.5 billion tax increase on America's families. That's Billion with a 'B.' Hardworking American taxpayers face the largest tax increase in American history.
"As if what this budget proposal does do in the form of an unprecedented tax increase weren't enough, what it doesn't do is equally as troubling. Despite their campaign promises to the contrary, the Democrats have decided not to address the runaway entitlement spending that threatens to bankrupt this country.
"Americans deserve better than what the Democrats plan to offer. American families need tax breaks, not tax hikes. I will continue working to see to it that taxpayers get the fiscally responsible government they expect."
