King Helps Iowa Dairy Farmers and Processors
WASHINGTON, DC - On Tuesday, Congressman Steve King and fellow members of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry heard testimony yesterday from Doug Wells, of Wells Dairy, Inc.
Mr. Wells, Co-President of the LeMars-based company, testified with 11 other witnesses before the subcommittee in a hearing titled, "Review of Federal Milk Marketing Order Rulemaking Procedures." The testimony will help shape the Farm Bill.
"LeMars is the Ice Cream Capitol of the World. In order to remain on top of the ice cream industry, we must make changes to a federal system written in the 1930s," stated King. "I will work with Mr. Wells and all of Iowa's dairy farmers and processors to make the dairy market more suitable for all players. We must work together to give dairy farmers the risk management tools they need to compete in a market known for volatility."
