KING VOTES TO PROTECT
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
WASHINGTON - Iowa Congressman Steve King today took to the floor of the
U.S. House to urge his colleagues to protect citizens' right to recite
the Pledge of Allegiance.
With King's support, the House passed H.R. 2389, the
Pledge Protection Act, which does not allow the federal
courts to hear cases involving the Pledge. Currently, some federal
judges are ruling that the Pledge is unconstitutional because of the
words 'under God.' King is an original cosponsor of the bill.
"It's a sad state of affairs Congress had to use its authority to
protect our Pledge of Allegiance from radical activist judges and
liberal litigators who work to force us to remove the phrase "under God"
from our Pledge," said King. "We cannot allow a few activist judges to
impose their political opinion on the people of the United States by
legislating from the bench."
Both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution refer to God.
