Highway 20 to See Federal Funds Next Year
WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman Steve King announced
today
the four-lane Highway 20
project will receive $500,000
in
federal funding.
Last night the U.S.
House passed H.R. 5576 - the
Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban
Development, the Judiciary, the District of
Columbia, and Independent Agencies Appropriations
Act for FY07, which includes the funding
for the Highway 20 four-lane project.
King worked closely
with Congressional appropriators to aggressively
pursue funding for Highway 20. The appropriations
bill now must be passed by the Senate.
A four-lane Highway 20
has been one of King's top priorities since the days
he served in the Iowa Senate, because it spurs
economic development for northwest Iowa.
"For far
too long, northwest Iowa has been left out of the
development opportunities that would come with an
adequate west to east highway moving people, jobs
and wealth into our areas," said King. Most know
that years ago in the Iowa Senate I declared it was
my mission to see this highway widened, and now I
continue to bring support to it from the federal
level."
