King:
unconscionable
to abandon our commitment to americans
WASHINGTON - With
Congressman King speaking to defend the War on
Terror, the U.S. House today passed a resolution
to protect America, support the War on Terror
and commit to finishing the job in Iraq.
The two-day debate
concluded with today's vote in the House, with
the Resolution passing by a vote of 256 - 153.
Last night, King addressed his colleagues on the
floor of the House. Congressman Jim Leach was
the only Representative of the Iowa delegation
who voted against supporting the War on Terror
in Iraq.
In a similar
debate in the Senate, Iowa Senator Tom Harkin
was one out of three who voted to support an
amendment to a defense funding bill that would
require the withdrawal from Iraq.
"The terrorists
themselves have told us that Iraq is central to
the War on Terror," said King. "It is
unconscionable to abandon the mission and our
commitment to Americans to keep them safe. The
reality is we can fight the terrorists over
there, or we can fight them over here in our
backyards, our schools and our churches."
"America got a
real debate today and one thing was clear: there
are people who support the effort to free Iraq
from its fertile terrorist breeding grounds and
there are people who would rather cut and run,
turn their backs and ignore terror where it
starts, only to allow it to grow and thrive so
it can come at America with full force," added
King.
"Freedom can echo
across the Arab world for hundreds of millions
of people the same way that it echoed across
Europe after the Berlin Wall fell. America will
be safer, because free people do not go to war
against other free people," added King.
