King: Pelosi Undercuts Troops
Washington D.C. - Congressman Steve King, late last night, voted "NO" on a Pelosi-led bill that would defund American troops engaged in battle against Al-Qaeda terrorists and insurgents in Iraq. President Bush has promised to veto the Democrat-written war bill that passed 218-210 late last night.
"Speaker Pelosi has demanded for years that President Bush listen to the military leaders on the ground, but yesterday she couldn't be bothered to attend a classified briefing by General Petraeus. She found time recently, however, to travel to the Middle East to meet Syria's dictator. And yesterday, she found time to come to the floor of the House for a rare appearance in the Speaker's chair to take credit for final passage of this unconstitutional bill," said King.
The Democrat bill sets a date certain for retreat from Iraq and a date certain for defeat. It also funds numerous unrelated programs, such as fisheries, forest counties, the FDA, NASA and the Capitol Power Plant.
"Surrendering to a bunch of evil murderers is not a strategy for America. General Petraeus made it clear to every Member of Congress who would listen, that winning is the only option. Iran's involvement in Iraq raises a horrible potential. A nuclear Iran which could control 42.6% of the globe's oil would strangle the economies of the free world until we could no longer afford to defend ourselves. Funding our troops for success in their mission should be our only option," stated King.
