KING COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT'S IRAQ
PLAN
WASHINGTON - U.S.
Congressman Steve King (IA-05) today
released the following statement
regarding the President's nationally
televised address on his new
strategy for Iraq:
"I
know the President meets with the
wounded and with the families of the
casualties, as do I. His speech
keeps faith with their sacrifice.
George Bush is the
Commander-in-Chief of all of our
military and by the Constitution, he
sets our foreign policy.
"This
is no time to discuss surrendering
our will to the will of terrorists
who will follow us home if they have
the means to do so.
"A
year ago, there was violence across
most of Iraq. Today, eighty percent
of the violence is confined to the
Baghdad areas. We have Baghdad
surrounded, and today our military
goes anywhere they want to go,
anywhere in Iraq.
"Illegal militia leaders need to be
taken out of business, and Iran must
cease their proxy war against the
U.S. that they are conducting by
funding, training and arming
terrorists. Iraq needs to pass
legislation that will distribute a
portion of the oil revenue to each
Iraqi. Every Iraqi will then have a
vested interest in their national
oil production and they will know
that peace and prosperity directly
affects their monthly check.
"If
this battle in the global War on
Terror cannot be won in Iraq, it
cannot be won anywhere. Whose
civilization do you think is
doomed?"
